Transatlantic Repositioning Cruises on Holland America Line in April 2010

Holland America Line (HAL) has been in business since 1873, and today is has a long, proud legacy in cruising. They've established a tradition of excellence that is the envy of other lines in terms of service, accommodations, and food. And they've updated their product to ensure that they offer the amenities and services that today's cruisers expect.

HAL has some of the prettiest ships at sea and an upgrade program launched in 2006 added some improvements that made even the older ships fresh and contemporary. With lots of wood paneling, fine art, and nautical instruments and charts, these vessels have a timeless elegance.

Continental Business Class

Their Culinary Arts Center, where passengers enjoy cooking demonstrations and wine-tasting classes, is very popular. When not used for culinary pursuits, it doubles as a movie theater.

You can have a cappuccino and email your friends and family from the Explorations Café. And there are plenty of informative seminars and educational programs. If you don't feel like leaving your stateroom, they're broadcast over closed-circuit television.

As members of the prestigious Confrerie de le Chaine des Rotisseurs, their chefs are trained to the highest international standards. There are vegetarian options and spa menu selections in addition to the eclectic Continental menu. The optional Pinnacle Grill restaurant serves Pacific Northwest cuisine, including sensational Dungeness crab cakes and bread pudding.

You can keep fit at the fitness center, or on the sports court or jogging track. Free fitness classes are an almost daily occurrence. Work out the kinks with a treatment from the full-service Greenhouse spa.

HAL has two transatlantic repositioning cruises in April 2010.

Transatlantic repositioning cruises on Eurodam.

With a larger than average spa and salon. Thermal suites with whirlpools, a hydropool, and the largest gymnasium in the HAL fleet, Eurodam is a great choice for active travelers. Almost 70% of the cabins have balconies. And you can watch the action in the exhibition kitchen on one of the many video monitors. The Crow's Best coffee house has specialty coffees, Internet stations, and MP3 music players.

On April 3, 2010, Eurodam leaves Fort Lauderdale and crosses the Atlantic, arriving in Lisbon after eight days at sea. She visits Portimao, Cadiz, Almeria, Ibiza, Barcelona, and Monte Carlo before disembarking passengers on April 19 in Rome. This voyage has a nice mix of sea days and port calls, and passengers arrive in Europe well rested from the time at sea.

Those with more time can stay aboard and call at Dubrovnik, Corfu, Katakolon, Santorini, Ephesus, Athens, and Sicily before heading back to Rome and leaving the ship on April 29.

Transatlantic repositioning cruises on Westerdam.

The 1,916-passenger Westerdam is roomier than most of the other Holland America vessels. And with 11 treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy pool, the Greenhouse Spa is one of their best.

The two-story main dining room serves guest at set times and in open seating. Passengers can also dine at the alternative Pinnacle Grill, Lido Restaurant, or Windstar Café.

Westerdam sails from Fort Lauderdale on April 14, 2010 and arrives in Funchal, Madeira after a week at sea. She visits Cadiz, Almeria, Corsica, Rome, Naples, and Split before arriving in Venice on May 3. Passengers overnight in Venice aboard Westerdam and disembark the next morning.

This cruise calls at some wonderful ports and at press time, fares were more than 60% of the brochure rate. For fans of Holland America, it's a great cruise deal.
